Car seats for babies
First off this one area that you don't want to skimp on, follow the advice of the latest travel laws and make sure that the car seat meets relevant standards such as the Kite mark.

It will possibly be one of your earliest buys since if you picking up your baby from hospital then most insist that you have a car seat suitable for babies correctly fitted before they will let you go.
Car seats for babies and children are divided up into a number of different classes depending up on the age and weight of the child.
Car seats in Group 0+ are the ones that you are probably going to be looking for which are designed for newborns to 13kg.
These are largely rear facing seats, and you should not use them in the front seat of the car. It is possible that your car seat comes as part of a travel system in which case take along your car and try and fit the seat before you buy the travel system. They don't all work in all cars.
What you are looking for is something that you can maneuver and install as quickly and as easily as possible. Although you will have had little practice in installing a car seat, think about the speed factor when you are doing it on a cold rainy night and you want to get your baby in the car as fast as possible, or take out the seat without waking them up!!
Considerations such as style and colourway should come bottom of your list with car seats. This is not a fashion accessory it is an essential.
Baby car seats are not that comfortable though for the baby and try and avoid leaving them in car seats for a long time. The carry handles on them are great for transporting them around and some come with rocking underside, but a proper carrycot is probably better for them after a few hours.
